The Post Office is accepting letters for the ride to Dragoon. The Chamber of Commerce is selling a limited number of envelopes with Butterfield Overland Stage Company stamps and an artist rendering of an Overland Stage. The post office is cancelling the stamp with a special postmark signifying the letter was carried by the pony express.
The ride from Benson to Dragoon is about 20 miles. The route taken today covers as much of the original route as possible considering rights of way, railroad, and interstate highway. There are a total of three pairs of riders each pair covering one third of the distance. The ride will take about 4 hours.

Once the last pair of riders reach Dragoon, the letters will enter the “usual” mail system for delivery to the addresses on the envelopes. Rumor has it that some of the letters will show up on eBay in a few days.
