Cochise County Gains Jobs

The Arizona Department of Commerce reports that Cochise County gained 75 jobs in March. The unemployment rate is now 8.2 percent with Cochise and Coconino Counties tied for the lowest rate in Arizona. You can read a prior post on unemployment here.

Arizona Stands To Lose

Arizona could miss out on a congressional seat because of poor response to the census. Additionally cities and counties will receive less federal and state revenue that is apportioned on population. Census personnel will visit homes that did not mail in a census form tomorrow (Saturday, May 1). Please help your community and be counted.

Pricey And Successful

That is how the home buyer tax credit program is described. Critics say two thirds of the buyers would have purchased anyway. Sen. Johnny Isakson (R, Georgia) thinks that the credits may have been the incentive to get buyers who would have purchased a home in 2012 or 2013 to buy in 2009/2010, when it was needed.

On March 18 we published a post titled “Addressing Foreclosures” in which we mentioned that Arizona was one of six states preparing a program to help distressed homeowners. Arizona‘s program is submitted and awaiting federal approval.

Signs Of Recovery?

REALTOR.org had a number of articles yesterday that indicated we may be on the road to recovery.
  • The number of vacant homes fell slightly in the first quarter to 2.6 percent from 2.7 percent in the third quarter of 2009.
  • Some economists are saying that it’s time for the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates.
  • Metrostudy, which researches the housing industry, says demand is forcing up prices in some markets.
