Cochise County Census Response Up

Cochise County Board of Supervisors estimate that the mail-in rate for the census in the county is 68 percent. The 2000 census had a return rate of 60 percent. And the 2010 rate is 1 point higher than that of the state. However we are 10 points below that of the nation as a whole. Participation rates for the U.S. can be tracked online at: http://2010.census.gov/2010census/take10map.

2010 Census

The 2010 census is underway and it is very important for everyone to participate. Federal and state tax allocations of tax revenues to counties and towns are determined by census. The figures I have seen indicate that each person counted in Cochise County represents $1,000 is tax benefits to the county and $500 to the city of Benson. So please be counted.

Census forms have already been mailed to residents who do not use a PO Box. People with PO Boxes will be visited by a census taker. Please note that anything a census tacker sees of hears is confidential and they are subject to substantial fines if they reveal any information as a result of their visit.

So please be counted. Read more here.

According to an interactive map Cochise County’s participation thus far is 61 percent.
